Beth visited the inaugural Scriptwriters Awards on November 10th 2010, see photo and also helped her best friend (and former The Tribe co-star) Antonia Prebble buy a house.
With the help of supportive friends, and plenty of phone calls to her Wellington-based parents for advice, Antonia started the search for her dream home. “There were a lot of people around to support me, but ultimately all the responsibility lay with me, so it was pretty scary,”she says, adding that the very first auction she went to was a minordisaster. “I was so nervous – it went past my top bid in about three seconds! I got it so wrong,” she laughs. While she went to see most open homes on her own, Antonia did enlist the services of friend and fellow actor Beth Allen, who plays Brooke Freeman on Shortland Street, to help her in the quest.
“Beth bought a house a few years ago and is really practical, so I’d walk in and check out the vibe. If I liked it I’d get her to come back with me and she’d say, ‘There’s no storage’, and so on. If I got herseal of approval, I’d feel better about it. I would get carried away with the colours otherwise!”
